Born and raised in the Greater Lansing area, Mike is a wealth of knowledge about the local sports scene, it’s venues and all the assets on hand that can make your event great. Mike comes to the GLSA with a robust background in media, sales and customer service. As a manager and trainer for the Best Buy Corporation he imparted his proven knowledge of sales and customer service to hundreds of employees throughout the Midwest. Multi-tasking at full speed pace was the order of the day as Assignment Manager with local NBC-TV affiliate, WILX Channel 10. As a Producer for a successful local sports talk radio station, Mike was heavily involved in the sports community and worked daily with it’s key players. Relationships built and media savvy acquired in these positions puts a Greater Lansing media insider at your fingertips.

Prior to joining the GLSA, John spent 23 seasons as a Division I baseball coach at The University of Michigan (7 years), Bradley University (14 years) and Michigan State University (2 years). While at Bradley, he served a dual role as Assistant Marketing Director for Athletics (12 years) and was responsible for marketing and promoting men's and women's basketball, soccer, baseball, softball and volleyball. During his coaching career he organized several tournaments, served as camp director for various baseball camps, and recruited and coached over 90 players who reached the professional level.

A native of Sterling Heights, John is a graduate of Henry Ford II High School, where he was a three-sport athlete and a 15th-round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He attended The University of Michigan, where he was a four-year baseball letter winner and helped the Wolverines to two Big Ten Championships and a Big Ten Division Championship as well as two appearances in the College World Series. In 1981 he was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and hit .400 at the College World Series. He is one of a select group that played and coached at the CWS. John earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Michigan and a master’s degree in education administration.

Prior to enrolling at Michigan, John was selected for the inaugural Olympic National Sports Festival in 1978, which was held in Colorado Springs, CO.

John was drafted in the 19th round by Detroit following his senior year of college and spent parts of two seasons in the Detroit Tigers organization. John is active in the local sports scene and coaches youth girls basketball and softball in the Greater Lansing area
