The Capital Area Soccer League's (CASL) Executive Director has been named as one of the Planners to Watch in the January edition of SportsEvents Magazine. Scott M. Dane has been recognized for his efforts with the Capital Area Classic - CASL's annual soccer tournament which brings to Lansing as many as 300 teams each year over a weekend in September. The proceeds from the tournament are used to provide financial assistance to CASL players and field grants to local soccer clubs.

For the third straight year, SportsEvents Magazine has profiled some of the industry's most outstanding event planners - nominated by their industry peers - in the "Planners & Places To Watch" special feature that appears in the January issue. Scott was nominated by Mike Price at the Greater Lansing Sports Authority who said, "The Capital Area Classic is an incredible event for our community. It drives hundreds of soccer teams and families in to area hotels, restaurants and attractions, resulting in a very positive economic impact for the entire region. The fact that Scott and the CASL organization have been able to grow the event from 100 teams, to nearly 300 in recent years, only makes the event that more integral to our region's well being."

Over the course of the last five years, the Capital Area Classic has grown from 100 teams in 2005 to its high point with 305 teams in 2009. The tournament is the third largest in the state and attracted 250 teams and more than 10,000 people to the Lansing area in 2010.

CASL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that strives to maximize available resources to provide the highest quality of soccer services and ensure that all players, staff and stakeholders have a positive climate for learning and development. The League has more than 2,500 soccer players and 600 volunteer team officials.

Oscar Castaneda, CASL President, stated, "We are extremely proud of the success of the Capital Area Classic and are happy that Scott has been recognized by an industry magazine."
