LANSING, Mich.— The Greater Lansing Sports Authority and The USA High School Clay Target League are pleased to announce that 2018 will be the inaugural year for the USAHSCTL National Championships, July 12th-15th, in Mason, Michigan.

The event is a trap shooting competition for the highest-qualifying student athletes and teams throughout all affiliated state high school clay target leagues in the nation. Over 2,000 student athletes will represent their schools in the unique event, and over 5,000 spectators, along with dozens of exhibitors, are also expected to attend. The National Championship will be hosted by the MTA home grounds in Mason Michigan, which was also the home of the Michigan State High School Clay Target League’s State Tournament in June.

“We have been working on a national championship ever since we started expanding to other states beyond Minnesota in 2014,” said Jim Sable, the founder and president of the USA High School Clay Target League. “Now that we are the largest youth clay target shooting program in the nation, it makes sense to host a National Championship where the best student athletes in the League can qualify to participate.”

The event will also feature top rising country star Lucas Hoge, performing live at the 2018 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship on July 12th. The concert will be an exclusive private event for the thousands of participating student athletes, coaches, and their families attending the National Championship.

“Our goal is to have the premier youth shooting championship in the nation.” said John Nelson, Vice President of the League. “It’s going to be a great event, and we are really excited to be part of this historic one-of-a-kind shooting sport event in Michigan this week.”

The USA High School Clay Target League is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and operates affiliate State High School Clay Target Leagues as the independent provider of shooting sports as an extracurricular co-ed and adaptive activity for high schools and students in grades six through 12 who have earned League-approved firearm safety certification. The organization’s priorities are safety, fun, and marksmanship – in that order.
