Capital City River Run Weekend of Races September 20-21, 2014
When a community celebrates wellness and the self-discipline long distance running requires you get more than a fun event, you get a big public show of strength and inspiration. Such an event is going on in Greater Lansing this weekend with the Capital City River Run Weekend of Races. Starting with the kids race, a lively 5K and the Healthy & Fit Expo on Saturday and followed up by the half and first-time full Marathon Sunday, human strength and the enduring spirit of life and wellness will be on display everywhere you look. It's honestly really inspiring to see all the people getting ready for the race, thinking of their different motivations, causes and personal goals. If you're inspired by it like I am, maybe think about spending the next year in training to take part in the event yourself in 2015. I can promise you the event will be back, as this has grown incredibly in popularity every year. That's why its grown into a full Marathon! Hey, also, for Saturday, if you've never been, really get in and check out the FREE Healthy & Fit Expo in the Lansing Center. Put on by the folks that put out the popular local publication Healthy & Fit Magazine, the expo is brimming with all different kinds of offerings and businesses focused on better heath. I've been to it a few years in a row now and have always come away with info and ideas on how I can live a little healthier. There are freebies from businesses, exercise and wellness demonstrations, workout facilities offering deals on memberships, etc. etc. Totally something you should check out. Come back down to the downtown area on Sunday to catch a glimpse of the half and full Marathon taking place as well as various forms of family entertainment, food, refreshments and a beer tent. Now I know a beer tent isn't the healthiest thing in the world, but you know what IS healthy? Having a little balance in your life! All things in moderation, I say!
No matter how you slice it, or what you feel you can get out of it, whether or not you are participating as a racer or a volunteer the Capital City River Run Weekend of Races is a special time in Greater Lansing. Come down and cheer for someone you know that is racing or cheer for perfect strangers for that matter! You'll feel better for it and so will they! Also just being around the energy of a big race like this is infectious. I bet you anything you'll leave this event as a spectator with aspirations for more. Check out the Capital City River Run website for full information and times. The race is about to begin, come down and be part of the action!
