With all the Olympics going on right now its hard not to picture yourself out there with the Olympic champions, vying for international sporting dominance. While you may not find it easy, or smart, to try ski jump or bobsled, there are some winter sports you can jump out of your chair and do with relative ease - especially if you're in the Greater Lansing area. What am I talking about? Why, ice skating of course! All over the region there are opportunities to strap on the blades and either pretend to be part of USA hockey, or a gold medal hopeful figure skater from France. Sound fun? Get online and check out open skate times for The Summit Ice and Sports Complex, Suburban Ice East Lansing or Munn Arena on MSU Campus. All these great venues offer open ice skating, perfect for you to hone your craft, or simply cling to the boards as you crawl around the rink like a rookie. Your entire family will love it and you'll get some exercise too. Maybe when you're done, stop and have a pizza to warm back up? See this nice day coming together? Instead of simply watching Olympic ice sports from your arm chair and munching on potato chips, you're out there on the ice, taking your turn at skating supremacy. Now, word of warning - if you haven't been open ice skating in a while, consider tying a pillow to your backside, or holding hands with someone in your family who is a better ice skater than you, like your 9 year-old-daughter. You don't have to be perfect, just get out there and take your shot. Want to relate? Get out there and skate! Enjoy!
