Sports Events Internship Opportunity
The Lansing Sports Commission is offering a paid ($16/hour), internship designed for those interested in gaining real-world exposure in the sports and events industry. We are seeking an intern who is available to start immediately with the ability to remain on board through 2026. This opportunity will provide a flexible weekly in office schedule as well as require flexibility for evening and weekend work. This position will report to the Sports Events Manager and assist in providing services and support for sporting events in which the LSC is involved.
Key Responsibilities
- Event Assistance: Support the LSC in on-site event operations, helping ensure everything runs smoothly during evening and weekend sporting events.
- Administrative Support: Assist with various clerical tasks to keep our projects on track and organized as well as researching prospective sporting events for the Greater Lansing area.
- Team & Event Materials: Help create team bags, distribute event materials, and contribute to organizing customized information for event participants.
- Social Media Content: Aid in curating and updating social media content, specifically showcasing real-time updates and event highlights during onsite activities.
Qualifications
- Strong interest in sports, event planning, or marketing
- Must be available to work a flexible agreed upon schedule with 15-20 hours of work each week including a combination of office hours and evening/weekend work.
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Core Competencies
Our preferred candidate will have a working knowledge of sport management and event coordination, strong organizational and time management skills, and an ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite are required. Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills are essential to success in this position. Reliable transportation is required.
Experience in sport management or coordination is preferred.
