The Michigan Recreation and Parks Association (MRPA) presented its Site Design Award to the City of Lansing for improvements at Ranney Park. Through Lansing's dedicated park millage and the design consultation of C2AE and Laux Construction, Ranney Park is now one of the premier fast pitch softball diamonds in the state. Project highlights include a dual-wing press box over covered dugouts, bleacher seating for over 2,000 people, and a new state-of-the-art scoreboard.
Earlier this year, Ranney Park was recognized as winner of the Junior College Division 2009 Stabilizer Solutions/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) "Field of the Year." The award is sponsored by the "Official Playing Surface" of the NFCA, Stabilizer Solutions, and recognizes outstanding grounds maintenance and quality playing surfaces.
The park is named after Dr. George Ranney, the only Congressional Medal of Honor recipient (posthumously awarded in 1906) from the Mid-Michigan area.
