LANSING, Mich.— The Greater Lansing Sports Authority (GLSA), the Mitten Kittens and the Lansing Derby Vixens, are pleased to announce the 8th annual Mitten Kitten Mash-Up will be held October 5-7 at the Summit Sports and Ice Complex in Dimondale, Michigan. The twenty-five-team tournament is the annual celebration and showcase of flat track roller derby features a collection of tournaments - 2 Divisions of the state's best adult teams, the 'Great Lakes Classic' featuring newer leagues, a 4-team Juniors Tournament, a Tournament of former state Championship teams - and more bonus fun from the best roller derby teams and skaters from Michigan.

“Roller derby has become a staple sport in the state of Michigan,” said GLSA Executive Director Mike Price. “This tournament gives these competitive Michigan teams a chance to battle for the coveted State Title in the capital city, making for a great weekend of competition and fun.”

The event consists of two divisional playoffs, a 5-way mini tourney featuring new teams, and Tournament of Champions, and a 4-way tangle for the Junior Derby State Title. All-together this will be the largest Michigan roller derby event ever with over 25 teams participating on two tracks over 3 days. With 500 plus participating skaters, roughly 100 officials, dozens of production staff, and hundreds of fans from derby leagues all over both peninsulas this event is positioned as the roller derby event of the year in Michigan.

“Roller derby is family friendly and many of the attendees are families of the skaters,” said event organizer Constance Snelling. “Typically, skater ages range from 18-45, predominantly female.  Males make up a larger portion of officials/announcers/photographers and the age range is generally mid-20s to late-40s. We’re proud to say the event has a charitable affiliation as well as we continue our great work partnering with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Michigan.
