LANSING, Mich.— NUWAY Wrestling, America's Premier Wrestling Association, is coming back to the Lansing Center for some of the best youth wrestling competition in the country. The NUWAY Wrestling ChristmaSparty (a youth wrestling tournament featuring over 1,200 wrestlers from across the country) will bring the Lansing Center to a fever-pitch December 16-17, 2017. Huge ballrooms in the Lansing Center are converted to competition space where wrestlers of varying ages are first paired then pitched in battle. Where are they coming from? How about 11 states throughout the Midwest including Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Missouri and Pennsylvania.
"We're thrilled to have this successful partnership with NUWAY wrestling," said Mike Price, Executive Director of the Greater Lansing Sports Authority. "With the availability of our community's mobile bleacher system the Lansing Center has become a really solid venue for large events like this. We look forward to a long relationship with NUWAY wrestling and their many annual events."
For those that would like to re-live their old wrestling days from childhood or high school competition, or if your kids are interested in getting started in the sport, the public is invited to the Lansing Center on December 16th or 17th. Admission is $30 for a weekend pass for adults or $20 per day. Students get a weekend pass for $15 or pay $10 per day. Kids six and under are free.
“This event has been tremendously successful for us. Our participation numbers are up at least 20% from last year,” said David Dean, President of NUWAY Wrestling. “Right now, we’re using two thirds of the Lansing Center for our event. Next year we’re going to grow from an 8th grade and under event to include high school and college divisions and and anticipate using the entire Lansing Center. This weekend we’ll have 24 mats of action, including the best youth wrestlers in the country.”
Thanks to NUWAY Wrestling, the GLSA and great venue partners like the Lansing Center the region is turning into a hot bed for youth wrestling. This holiday themed event is a great opportunity to see some of the best put on the headgear and get into the ring.
