I'm excited to say we've got another guest blogger for the GLSA blog this week. Kirstin Porter from the Lexington Lansing hotel has a lot to say about hockey and the great rivalries coming into the picture with the start of Big Ten Hockey - take it away Kristin!
The fact that the inaugural season for Big Ten hockey is looming, means another great sport-related option for weekend entertainment. Not that there wasn't MSU hockey in town before...it just wasn't Big Ten hockey. The rivalry against teams we know and love weren't there in the past. With the addition of Penn State, the Big Ten Conference has the 6 teams needed to have their own conference represented in college hockey. The expected series against teams from outside the Big Ten and outside the country will still be a staple this season because the Spartans will be playing against every major conference in the country. In contrast, however, the Big Ten games will be most impactful to the Spartans' season because the B1G tournament winner will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Included in the Big Ten Network's 27 games are Frozen Fridays - double headers between 2 Big Ten teams. Tickets to the exciting inaugural Big Ten hockey season are affordable and go on sale on October 1st through msuspartans.com and on stubhub.
