The Lansing Derby Vixens, Lansing’s premiere women’s flat track roller derby league, was formed in April
2010. On October 10, 2010 the Vixens took their first win over the Blue Water Derby Girls in the final jam
of their first official bout. The glory continued as the Vixens hosted their first home bout February 12,
2011 at the Lansing Center against the Floral City Roller Girls in front of a sellout crowd of more than
1,200 fans.
In January 2012 due to rapid growth and success the Vixens to create a second team to join the LDV All-
Stars, the LDV Capital Corruption (Currently our proud mid-level team). This allowed more skaters to
bout and the league began hosting double headers for home bouts featuring both teams. In June 2013
the Vixens were accepted as full WFTDA members and in April of 2014 added a third team, the LDV Old
Town Beat Down and acquired a Junior’s league. The Lansing Junior Vixens welcome skaters from ages 8-
17 and utilize a modified set of rules to allow skaters of varied ages and skill level to play roller derby.
Currently the Lansing Junior Vixens are a top ranked team in the JRDA rankings.
The Vixens strive toward becoming one of Michigan’s top roller derby leagues with the LDV All-Stars
competing for WFTDA rankings in the North Central Region. At first, league members traveled to train,
while also supplementing their formal training by working at just about any place they could find, such
as Edru Roller Skating Rink, Foster Community Center and even a high school auditorium stage.
Currently, the Vixens train at multiple locations across Lansing, namely our practice and bout space the
Summit Sports and Ice Complex.
The league attributes its success to the incredible work ethic of our skaters, leadership and volunteers.
We believe in individual and team empowerment through a fun and challenging atmosphere while
promoting fitness, a healthy body image, community spirit and the #lovelansing movement. The Vixens
are about much more than just skating – they also volunteer in many community events. From its
inception through 2014 the Vixens have donated over $60,000 in cash and in-kind donations to local
charities and community events and they continued that momentum through the 2015 season and into
our current 2016 season.
