Hawk Hollow Golf Course will be the host venue for the 2022 Michigan Amateur Championship. This is the premier tournament for amateur golf in our state. This is the 111th year that the tournament has been played. Past venues include Oakland Hills, Belvedere, Boyne, Detroit Golf Club, Eagle Eye, and Egypt Valley—just to name a few. This year will be only the third time ever that this event has been held at a course in the greater Lansing area.
The Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) administers the tournament. This event runs from June 27th through July 1st. The field consists of 162 players who will have competed in qualifying tournaments throughout Michigan to earn the opportunity to play in the championship. Contestants typically range in age from a few high school golfers up to top players in their fifties. As you might expect, most of the field are collegiate players who reside in Michigan and play for universities from all over the country.
Eagle Eye Golf & Banquet Center, the parent company of Hawk Hollow Golf Course have donated use of the course to the GAM. This is a major commitment as no daily fee/customer play is allowed during the week of the tournament. After their initial entry fee paid to the GAM, there is no additional cost to the players for golf or use of the practice facilities throughout the week. For the good of the game, the management team has decided that hosting this event is a worthwhile endeavor. We look forward to making the tournament a memorable and enjoyable experience for the players.
Hawk Hollow Golf Course opened for play on July 15, 1996. It was designed by Jerry Matthews and was the original property and now part of a six-course golf complex known as Eagle Eye Golf & Banquet Center. This family-owned, private company also operates Eagle Eye Golf Club, Timber Ridge Golf Course, The Falcon Golf Course, Woodside, and The Little Hawk Putting Course. All the courses are open to the public and accessible to all who want exceptional playing conditions, friendly customer service, and a truly memorable golf experience.
The vision that led to the creation of Hawk Hollow was to establish a championship course near Michigan State University and the capital city. The father and three son family handled the actual shaping of the course and the construction of the stately clubhouse. Their efforts and the growth of the Eagle Eye Golf properties have enabled the greater Lansing area to become the premier golf destination in mid-Michigan.
Hawk Hollow features 27 holes of exceptional golf, two large practice ranges, a short game practice area, and an 18-hole, all-natural grass putting course. The vast wooded property originally encompassed two sand quarries and enable Matthew’s team to bring water into play on most of the holes. Large hardwood trees frame the fairways and strategic bunkering adds to the beauty and challenge of the course. The green complexes vary in size, shape, and slope. Multiple teeing areas and generous landing areas provide an enjoyable experience for novice golfers as well as a true challenge for accomplished players. The collection of par three holes found on the original course are regarded as one of the best in the state of Michigan.
The Michigan PGA Championship, the GAM Net Amateur Championship, U.S. Senior Open Sectional Qualifying, numerous major college tournaments have been contested at Hawk Hollow. During the fourth week of June 2022, Hawk Hollow Golf Course will host the 111th Michigan Amateur Championship. This is the premier event for elite amateur players from the state of Michigan. The staff and management welcome you to Hawk Hollow Golf Course.
