Inclusive Sport Opportunities in Greater Lansing, Michigan

Finding opportunities for everyone to participate in sports and recreation is a key part of building a strong community. In Greater Lansing, a growing number of organizations are dedicated to making athletics accessible and inclusive for people of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds. 

From adaptive sports programs for individuals to leagues and events that welcome every skill level, the capital region is home to a wide range of options that promote health, friendship, and the joy of play. Organizations Offering Various Inclusive Sporting Events Throughout the Year

DeWitt Area Recreation Authority (DARA)

The DeWitt Area Recreation Authority (DARA) is focused on bringing a variety of inclusive sporting events to the region. Sporting opportunities include:

  • Adaptive Soccer - open to ages 5 and up. Runs April through May. Games are played at the Miracle League of Mid-Michigan Field.
  • Miracle League of Mid-Michigan Baseball - open to all ages. Games are non-competitive. Equipment provided. Registration opens in late March and closes in mid-April.
  • CheerAbilities - open to ages 5 and up. A club for competitive cheerleading for athletes with disabilities. Athletes travel to competitions within Michigan and the surrounding states as well as to The All Star Worlds Championships in Orlando, Florida, in April.

Lansing Parks & Recreation

Lansing Parks and Recreation offers leisure programs and opportunities to help improve the quality of life as well as maintain physical and psychological health and well-being. Inclusive recreation programs offer opportunities for individuals to socialize and participate together. The goal is to reduce barriers to leisure by utilizing adaptations and programming accommodations.

Michigan State University Adaptive Recreation

Michigan State University offers a variety of adaptive recreation options, including:

  • Goal ball
  • Boccia ball
  • Tandem cycling
  • Hand cycling
  • Archery
  • Table tennis
  • Swimming
  • Pickleball
  • Badminton
  • Blind Soccer
  • Sit volleyball
  • Tennis

Special Olympics Michigan (Area 8)
